Join the Town Train on a guided tour throughout Ålesund's town centre. You can enjoy the fantastic Art Nouveau buildings up close, visit the top of the city mountain Aksla, with a panoramic view of the archipelago, city and majestic mountains. The trip takes about 1 hour, including a stop at the viewpoint Fjellstua, and starts at Dronning Sonjas Plass (Queen Sonja's square). Audio guidance in Norwegian, English and German.
The trip starts at Dronning Sonjasplass and we will drive alongside the citystrait. On our way to Fjellstua we will pass “Arbeideren” (The worker) which is the old community
house in Ålesund. We will also pass the Countyhall built where
you could find a birdmountain until the 1970’s. We will drive down Keiser Wilhelm’s street passing the city square and the prison. We
continue into Borgundveien, the longest street in Ålesund.
Further, we will drive alongside the Borgund Fjord, pass the Sportscenter and the new soccer stadium, Color Line Stadion,
finished in 2005. We will now start our “climb” towards Fjellstua. The view will be more and more spectacular as we “climb”. You will see the mountain range (Sunnmørsalpene) and you will get a
clear view of the open sea. When we arrive at Fjellstua viewpoint, there will be a small break. Here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city, the sea and the ocean around. Here you can also buy the traditional "svelekaka" or something else that may tempt you. On our descent from the mountain we drive past Klipra where the cityfire ended in 1904. We pass “Vallehuset”
which, by a miracle, avoided the flames during the devastating
cityfire. We will pass the city park, and finally drive down Løvenvold street, across St Olav´s place and end our tour where we started, at Dronning Sonjas plass.
In addition to the regular departures during the summer season, the City Train also make trips in connection with most cruise calls in Ålesund. At large cruise calls the trains leave non stop - be sure to book and buy your ticket in time!
