From the ashes rose a new town in the characteristic Art Nouveau style punctuated by turrets, spires and ornaments. The town is situated at the very entrance of the renowned World Heritage Site, the Geirangerfjord.

Ålesund is easy to get to by air, sea and land. The flight connections to the central cities are good. The airport bus to the centre of Ålesund stops near all hotels in the town centre.
