The region offers excellent fishing lakes, salmon rivers and fishing on the fjords, as well as deep-sea fishing. Local fishing cards can be purchased at overnight stops, in shops, from private persons or from selv-service boxes. The region also has a rich hunting terrain for big game, birds and small game.
Before purchasing fishing cards specially for lakes and salmon rivers, you need to pay a fishing tax to the Norwegian State. This fishing licence can be purchased at the local Post Office, and you must have it with you whenever you fish
Fishing in rivers and lakes
Ørsta boasts nine salmon watercourses. The Ørsta and Bondal rivers are known to be good salmon and trout rivers. Hovdevatnet, Bjørdalstjørna, Kvanndalsvatnet and Vatnevatnet are all famous lakes for trout and char fishing. There is a trail suitable for wheelchair users along the Ørstaelva at Ose.
Fishing in the fjords and deep-sea fishing
From the innermost fjords to the islands at Ytre Søre Sunnmøre, most fishing enthusiasts will encounter challenges. Both from land and from a boat it is possible to land cod, haddock, coalfish, etc. Hobby fishing for your own consumption is free of charge and you may use a rod and a line. Ørstafjorden, Vartdalsfjorden and Hjørundfjorden are all rich in fish. There is a fishing site for wheelchair users at Rjånes. It is possible to hire a boat or join one of the organised fishing trips several places in the region.
Hunting
The region has several areas where you can hunt for big and small game. A hunting licence may be purchased from the landowner, from hunting clubs or from self-service boxes.
