Runde Environmental Centre represents a combined research station and environmental centre with facilities for seminars, courses, conferences, activities and excursions. It is located on the island of Runde, best known for housing the most southerly seabird cliffs in Norway. Runde is close to the town of Ålesund and Geiranger Fjord. National Geographic selected the region as the world’s best travel destination.

Runde Environmental Centre (Runde Miljøsenter) represents an opportunity for those wishing to make an event into a unique experience. The research station provides prime facilities for courses and conferences, as well as for accommodation. It is an extraordinary location for participants wishing to combine professional meetings with spectacular encounters of nature. Cultural events in the region lend themselves to be incorporated into special events. During a visit at Runde Environmental Centre it is natural to experience the ecosystem the island is part of, and the research station offers insights into current and exciting research on sustainable development.

The centre’s international research setting provides guests with the opportunity to discover the environment by visiting the information centre or meeting enthusiastic researchers from across the world. During a work break one may want to enjoy the sight of thousands of sea birds or the magical sounds of the open ocean with breaking waves against the wild shores of the island. As part of a meeting, fishing trips, seal safaris or bird watching adventures can be arranged, and the centre’s remote submarine (ROV) makes it possible to see live images from beyond the ocean’s surface, such as protected deep sea coral reefs.

In addition, a stay at Runde is easily combine with a visit to the art nouveau town of Ålesund or the world’s most beautiful fjord Geiranger (UNESCO Natural Heritage Site). Meetings and seminars at Runde Environmental Centre lend themselves to be joined to events and special excursions as well as to other professional conferences in the area, e.g. in Ålesund.
