In Geiranger, the many deserted mountain farms supply your mountain trip with a unique cultural-historical dimension. The Tafjord mountains are reknown among hikers who wish to walk from cabin to cabin. Here you will also find the highest mountain in the area – Puttegga – which thrones 1999,3 metres above sea level: Stories have been told about attempts to highten the summit with cement and rocks to reach the symbolic 2000 metres – naturally discarded as cheating...
You do not need to climb on high peaks to achieve a great experience. The region has many easy walking trips which still bring you close to nature. A trip from Geiranger to the mountain farm Skageflå is a powerful experience of nature and culture. The valley Molladalen is another example of an easy walk, where the summits can be enjoyed from the bottom of the valley. In all towns and villages on Sunnmøre, nature is close at hand without regard to where you spend your nights and move around. Walk straight from the hotel, camper, tent or boat - and you are getting started!
