Sykkylven municipality has got 7.500 inhabitants, and offers a most beautiful and varied nature. Here you can explore both narrow fiords, flat and fertile valleys, blue glaciers and mighty mountain formations.
The area has got plenty of good fishing grounds, including the world's shortest salmon river, called Straumen. In the winter Sykkylven is a perfect place to stay, with an alpine skiing resort with prepared slopes and hills up to 1250 metres.
The small fiord area is renowned both domestic and abroad for its exciting furniture factories, which dominate the local industry. The Norwegian Furniture Centre is of course situated here, and is a tribute to Norwegian furniture industry. In Sykkylven you will also find Cylindra, a remarkable furniture workshop that presents a collection of sculptural furniture that mirror the Norwegian culture and soul.
Sykkylven Museum of Natural History is also worth a visit. Here you can explore a large collection of bird- and wildlife from Norway and Spitzbergen. The exhibitions present you with spectacular animals such as polar bears, lynx and eagles in their natural habitat.
